What is Rethink Mercy?
Rethink Mercy is an initiative of Children’s Hunger Fund, whose mission is to deliver hope to suffering children by equipping local churches for gospel-centered mercy ministry. For over 20 years, Children’s Hunger Fund has assisted local churches to deliver hope to children in need around the world.
Rethink Mercy trains leaders, resources the local church and builds Mercy Networks so that they can reach their community with the gospel through relational mercy ministry. At the heart of Rethink Mercy is the desire to assist churches to truly help those in need and to build relationships that are focused on the gospel. We provide all of this at no cost for our Mercy Network churches.
What We Believe
CHF believes it’s the biblical design for the church to be at the forefront of compassion work around the world. It’s easy for organizations to assume the responsibility of caring for the poor and needy and to eclipse the church. In some cases charities even discourage the church from being actively involved in the world.
That is why CHF is committed to equipping the church with solid biblical training—training them how to engage their communities by caring for those in need and bringing the gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost. By helping the church better care for those in their communities in practical, loving ways, they build a natural platform from which to share the life-changing gospel of Christ.
Statement of Faith
We believe the Bible to be the inspired, and only infallible authoritative Word of God.
We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
We believe regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for the salvation of lost and sinful man.
We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost: they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in Christ.
What Others are Saying
Francis Chan, pastor and author (San Francisco, CA)
The uniqueness of CHF is that they train and equip volunteers from local churches to distribute the food through home deliveries in the United States and other countries. Going from family to family, they find the poorest of the poor and share not only food but love and the gospel.
Mark Bergin, pastor of The Painted Door (Chicago, IL)
For church plants that want very much to serve the poor but lack the resources to do it, Children’s Hunger Fund provides a warehouse full of resources at the disposal of the local church. It is hard to imagine a more biblical and helpful para-church ministry.
Chris Barksdale, pastor of The Hollywood Church (Los Angeles, CA)
CHF has been a vital asset in our ministry in the poverty-stricken areas of Hollywood. In many ways the Food Paks have been so much more than a provision of sustenance. They have been what Jesus has used to open doors for the gospel with people in our community.
Mike Matiscik, pastor of Christian Fellowship Church (Hammond, IN)
The Food Pak ministry allows us to bless people physically and spiritually as we strive to impact our community. For we get to see on a weekly basis the pain of physical hunger eliminated while at the same time knowing that the verses and truth we share each week is feeding souls as well.
Chris McElwee, pastor of Wheaton Bible Church (West Chicago, IL)
Providing a Food Pak for a family sometimes is the difference the family needs to have enough food for a weekend. By delivering food each week to families we are able to give them something they need, the food box and something they want, a friendship with someone who cares about them.
